The Leitchfield Fire Department responded to the report of an explosion and fire on South Clinton Street.

The fire occurred Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:30 off an access road that runs off South Clinton Street between the Community Action building and the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. While firefighters were en route to the scene, a witness reported hearing an explosion.

Upon arriving, firefighters found a large amount of garbage and a grassy area on fire, with an empty mobile home in danger of succumbing to the flames.

Firefighters, though, quickly extinguished the blaze. The cause of the explosion was undetermined, as it could have been any number of pressurized household items.

Leitchfield FD cleared the scene at approximately 3:00 p.m.

EMS staged near the scene as a precautionary measure.
