Lawler Academic Team wins Governor’s Cup Region title, Caneyville Elem. comes in second

After winning the Governor’s Cup district championship last month, Lawler Elementary’s Academic Team made it two big wins in a row as the squad was recently crowned Region Champion.

The Lions additionally placed first in Quick Recall, according to the school district, while Caneyville Elementary came in second place overall, and won Future Problem Solving.

In addition, students from across the district placed well in individual assessment categories. These include:

  • Mathematics: Lawler students Mason Day and Jack Johnston tied for second place.
  • Science: Wilkey Elementary’s Connor Carr came in first place, while Day came in fourth place.
  • Social Studies: Lawler student Levi Hamlington came in first place, as Johnston came in second.
  • Language Arts: Caneyville student Maya Clark came in first place, while Lawler students McKinley Gary and Danlee Hogan came in second and fifth place respectively.
  • Arts & Humanities: Clarkson Elementary student Addison Meredith won first place, Hamlington came in second and Caneyville’s Maya Clark and Ivey Hobby came in third and fourth place respectively.

The Lawler Academic Team is coached by Katie Decker, Terri Edwards and Kim Smith.
