
An elderly man has died after falling over a cliff and into Herrington Lake.
John G. Wood, 76, died Monday night after he lost his balance and toppled 35 to 40 feet over a cliff, the Mercer County Coroner’s Office told the Herald-Leader. Wood, who had been drinking, struck his head on several rocks during the fall and drowned.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office and Mercer County Coroner’s Office are leading the investigation that appears to be an accident.
Herrington Lake is a man-made, 2,335-acre lake in Mercer, Garrard and Boyle counties in central Kentucky. It’s the deepest lake in the state at 239 feet at Herrington Lake dam, according to the lake’s website.
