
Sallie Hughes Hammons, age 82, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Monday, (February 24, 2025) in Leitchfield, KY. Sallie was born on December 14, 1942 at St. Anthony Hospital, in Louisville, KY.
She was the daughter of James Henry and Dorothy Frederick Hughes, and raised in Jeffersontown, KY.
Sallie graduated from Fern Creek High School in 1960. She worked in various jobs over the next 55 years. She retired from Grayson County EMS after 15 years, serving as a paramedic and patient representative. She taught CPR, First Aid, and EMT classes for Area 5 State Fire Rescue Training for 10 plus years.
She was a lifetime member of Jeffersontown Methodist Church, and associate member of Leitchfield United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 42 years, Cecil Hammons; daughter, Rebecca Lynn Hammons Messer; brother, James Henry Hughes; ex-husband and companion, Glynn Moore; and lifetime friends, Frankie Bramer and Alice Kuhn.
Sallie is survived by her son, Bryan Hammons; granddaughter, Maci Hammons; grandson, Shannon Messer; sister, Gussie (Leo) Thompson of Lebanon Junction, KY; sister-in-law, Trish Hughes of Jeffersontown, KY; aunt, Nancy Greenwell of Louisville, KY; special cousin, Marcia Crouch of Elk Creek, KY; and several other nieces and nephews.
Cremation was chosen and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
