A husband has died and his wife airlifted following a residential fire in Boyd County.
Multiple fire departments responded to the blaze Monday morning at 8:20 at a residence on Green Valley Drive in Cannonsburg, approximately seven miles west of Ashland.
The Cannonsburg Fire Department said that upon arriving at the scene, firefighters observed “heavy fire showing from the front” of the home.
Neighbors told firefighters that two people were inside the single-story structure, resulting in fire department personnel beginning “an aggressive attack on the fire” while simultaneously searching for the couple, beginning at the rear of the house, the fire department said.
Firefighters found the couple and removed them from the residence.
The husband was pronounced deceased at the scene, while his wife was airlifted to a hospital in Huntington, West Virginia.
The Kentucky Fire Marshal’s Office and Kentucky State Police are leading the fire and death investigations.
