The Leitchfield Police Department has promoted three of its members to assistant chief, detective and sergeant, respectively.

The department announced the promotions on Monday.

The promotions are as follows:

Det./Sgt. Ian Renfrow was promoted to assistant police chief.

Renfrow began his career with LPD as a patrol officer before working as the school resource officer at Grayson County High School.

He has also served as the evidence custodian for LPD.

“As assistant chief, Renfrow will take on administrative duties for the agency and investigate ways of moving the department forward into this modern era of policing,” LPD said.

Officer Eric Miller was promoted to detective.

Miller began his career with LPD in August 2024 after serving with the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) for 12 years.

He worked in multiple divisions while with LMPD, including patrol, Metro Narcotics Street Enforcement, the Violent Crimes Unit, Criminal Interdiction Unit, and the Major Case Narcotics Division.

“Miller has a wealth of investigative experience and training and will provide an extremely skilled approach to general investigations for Leitchfield,” LPD said.

He will now lead investigations for the department as well as perform administrative duties regarding investigative technologies and intelligence software.

Officer Chuck Hoover was promoted to sergeant.

Hoover was hired by LPD in early 2023, as he arrived with over 20 years of law enforcement experience.

He began his career with Cobb County Police Department, just outside of Atlanta, Georgia, in 2001. Hoover next worked for 18 years with Marion Police Department and Crittenden Co. Sheriff’s Office in western Kentucky. He additionally served as Emergency Management Director in Crittenden County.

Hoover was named LPD 2024 Officer of the Year.

He will supervise patrol officers while taking on multiple administrative roles within the department.

“Hoover brings proven leadership experience and administrative wisdom to this supervisory role at LPD,” the department said.
