The cause of the fire at Auto Smart in Leitchfield has “likely” been discovered, and the company has issued a statement on social media regarding the blaze.
As K105 reported Wednesday morning, the Leitchfield Fire and Police Departments, Grayson Co. Sheriff’s Office, EMS, and Grayson Co. Emergency Management responded Tuesday at 9:50 p.m. to the report of smoke pouring from the Auto Smart building at 602 South Main Street.
The fire was primarily contained to a basement area on the back side of the building. Much of the rest of the structure, though, suffered either smoke, heat or water damage, or some combination thereof.
None of the vehicles for sale by the business suffered damage, as Leitchfield PD Officers Wally Ritter and Chuck Hoover, along with Grayson Co. Deputies Caleb Owens and Joel Baker, moved and assisted employees in moving several vehicles away from the building.
Assistant Leitchfield Fire Chief Roy Hack told K105 late Tuesday night at the scene that the fire began in the basement area but he, at that time, was unsure of how the fire started. On Wednesday afternoon, he said the blaze “likely” began in the basement furnace.
No injuries were reported.

The business should have “phones and computers hooked up by tomorrow (Thursday) fingers crossed,” Auto Smart said.
