Wanda Sue VanMeter, age 81, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (February 15, 2025) at Baptist Health Hardin in Elizabethtown, KY. She was born on November 17, 1943 in Leitchfield, KY, the daughter of the late Denver and Shellie Watson Shartzer.
She was a legal secretary in Leitchfield for 50+ years. Wanda was a dedicated and faithful member of Little Clifty Baptist Church and played piano continuing the legacy of a Shartzer behind the keyboard. She enjoyed working in her flowers with her husband, Joe.
On most Sundays after church you could find Wanda and Joe at the local Dairy Queen ordering one ice cream Sunday with 2 spoons.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Joe of Leitchfield; two sons, Wade VanMeter (Elizabeth) of Lexington, KY and Trent VanMeter (Lisa) of Leitchfield; six grandchildren, Morgan, Tyler, Luke, Jagger, Cate & Miller; five great-grandchildren, Thatcher, Hadley, Emelyn, Anna and Hudson, two brothers, Chester Shartzer (Kathryn) of Leitchfield and Jimmy Shartzer (Sharyon) of Glasgow, KY and a sister-in-law, Nancy Shartzer; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Chalmer Shartzer.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (February 22, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Steve Hill will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from 9:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
