There are several flooded roadways in Grayson County as the area has received over five inches of rain (and about three inches of snow) since late Friday night.

Grayson County Emergency Management (GCEM) said “much of our area” received 5.25 inches of rain, resulting in 11 currently flooded roadways (listed below) that have barricades warning motorists to turn around.

“Please don’t drive around the barricades. While we were out doing assessments, we witnessed people driving around barricades to attempt to cross. With the recent snow and forecasted snow, it will take some time for the water to recede,” GCEM stated.

There have been numerous high-water rescues around Kentucky – the Herald-Leader reports over 1,000 rescues — and at least nine deaths are being attributed to flooding, including a 35-year-old mother and her seven-year-old daughter in Hart County who died after a vehicle drove into floodwaters.

An emergency declaration was made by Gov. Andy Beshear, as Pres. Donald Trump approved federal aid for those affected by floodwaters.

Grayson County is under a Flood Warning until Monday afternoon.

Dangerous driving Sunday night and Monday

With temperatures predicted to fall into the lower 20s and teens Sunday night and into Monday morning, “residual water on any untreated road surfaces (will) freeze and result in black ice developing,” the National Weather Service said.

The high temperature on Monday is expected to be 33 degrees.
