Members of the Custer Fire Department recently rescued a dog that was trapped in a 50-foot hole.
The fire department said firefighters were dispatched Sunday night at approximately 10:15 to the 700 block of H Board Road on the report of a “dog in a deep hole.”
“Upon arrival, the owner advised he had spent all afternoon searching for the dog. Units confirmed the dog was inside the hole with barks that began to get weaker and found it to be a cave entry on the property,” the fire department said in a social media post.
Firefighters utilized a multi-point rope system, and a person was lowered into the 50-foot hole where the rescuer made contact with the dog. The animal, firefighters said, “appeared uninjured but obviously scared and tired.”
The dog and rescuer were lifted out of the hole, and the dog reunited with its owner.
The Hardinsburg Fire Department assisted with the rescue.
Firefighters cleared the scene Monday morning at approximately 12:50.
