A woman has suffered burns over the majority of her body after an explosion inside a residence.
Kentucky State Police said the East Bernstadt Fire Department and troopers responded to an explosion at a home on Glenview Road in north Laurel County Wednesday afternoon at approximately 3:15.
Upon arriving at the residence, firefighters and other first responders found the home fully engulfed in flames.
The homeowner, 66-year-old Shirley Wynn, “sustained severe burns, covering approximately 80 percent of her body,” Kentucky State Police said.
Wynn received immediate medical attention and was transported to St. Joseph-London Hospital before being transferred to a specialized burn treatment facility in Louisville.
Trooper Steve Walker, a fire investigator, is currently leading an investigation, but the early findings suggest the explosion may have been caused by propane gas used for floor space heaters.
The investigation is ongoing.
