GCHS & GCMS archery teams excel at 2 recent competitions

The Grayson County High School and Grayson County Middle School archery teams recently participated in two competitions, with a high school competitor winning the overall championship and two other high schoolers earning top 20 finishes.

Grayson County High School senior archer Landon Johnson won the Valentine’s Shootout held at Breckinridge County Middle School with 277 points. He bested 112 other male competitors at the event.

Dax Lasley shot 269, taking second among ninth grade shooters and coming in 8th place overall, while Brandon Hood shot 257, coming in third place among tenth grade boys and 20th out of 113 shooters.

  • Isaac Paul shot 256, coming in 4th place among tenth grade students and 22nd
  • Ethan House shot 255, taking third place among twelfth grade shooters and 23rd
  • Brooke McKinney shot 259, claiming second place among eleventh grade girls and 14th out of 90 female shooters.
  • Jana Dickerson shot 257, ranking second among tenth grade girls and 16th
  • Madison Overton shot 257, ranking third among tenth grade girls and 18th
  • Gracie McCombs shot 256, ranking third among eleventh grade girls and 19th
  • Addy Porter shot 199, which ranked 65th out of 90 girls competing at the tournament.

Grayson County Middle School archery team

GCMS archers recently competed in the Mustangs Roundup competition, with one shooter placing in the top five and several Cougar and Lady Cougar competitors posting impressive results.

William Newton shot 270, which led the squad in points and placed him in 5th place out of 45 seventh grade boys at the competition. Case Cannon shot 266, 7th among eighth grade boys and 70th out of 382 total male competitors.

Brynn Bessette, a seventh grader, earned 264 points, which ranked 13th among seventh grade girls and 73rd out of 359 female competitors.

  • Phoebe Clark shot 259, ranking 16th among seventh grade girls and 96th
  • Regan Coffey shot 248, ranking 22nd among eighth grade girls and 137th
  • Audrey Wilson shot 234, ranking 23rd among sixth grade girls and 189th
  • Lilly Hicks shot 230, ranking 28th among sixth grade girls and 207th
