Grayson County High School senior Levi Rogers has signed to play baseball at Asbury.
Rogers led the 2024 Cougars in batting average, OPS, slugging percentage, hits, home runs, and tied for the team lead in runs batted in.
He also was the team’s number two pitcher with a 4.31 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 50.1 innings.
The fit of Asbury was relatively simple for Rogers as the campus and coaches made him feel at home.
“I could tell from when he first went on campus that it was a great fit for him,” his mom Sonya told K105.
There was a large swath of attendees at the signing on Wednesday including family members, the entire Cougar baseball team/coaching staff, friends, and even a few special teachers.
“They mean everything. Thank you for helping me,” Levi Rogers said specifically about his family in attendance.
Cougar baseball head coach Jodie Nutt specifically mentioned that only 3-4% of high school athletes get the chance to play their sport at the next level and that is something to be proud of.
“He’s a baseball connoisseur,” Nutt said about Rogers. “He loves baseball, loves the game, and treats the game the right way.”
One of the common threads throughout the discussions amongst those in attendance was the hard work that had been put into getting to the point where he is now.
“I’ve never been around a kid that loves practice as much as he does,” Nutt added. “He’s got good things in store with the game and the game is going to be good to him.”
His mom added to the point while fighting through some of the emotions of the day.
“I think it still has to sink in,” she said. “He’s worked for this for years and years and years. We are just so proud of him.”
Rogers is the second Cougar baseball player to play at the next level under Nutt; joining Camden Brothers who went to Brescia.
He is hopeful that this is just the start of a swath of athletes to get that chance.
“It’s special. It’s a special moment,” the Cougar head coach said. “I’d like to see more and we’ve got more guys that have that opportunity and I think we will have that in the future.”
The 2025 Grayson County baseball team will open the regular season on March 18 at home against Hart County as they begin their quest for a third straight 12th District crown.
