A young Marshall County couple has been charged with killing their infant daughter.
The Calvert City Police Department charged 18-year-old Albert L. Walker and 20-year-old Cheyenne S. Driver, both of Calvert City, with murder in the death of their five-month-old baby, Breanna R. Driver-Walker.
Both suspects are being held in the Marshall County Detention Center.
The charge stems from an incident on January 17 when police and EMS were dispatched to the couple’s residence on the report of Breanna having difficulty breathing.
When police made contact with Breanna, she was bruised and “in clear distress,” according to a report by WPSD.com.
The infant was transported to Baptist Health Paducah where her condition worsened. She was then airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, where Breanna was found to have head injuries and several broken bones.
Walker told investigators his daughter was injured when he tripped and nearly fell down a set of stairs while holding Breanna. He let go of the baby as he caught himself, resulting in the infant toppling down 10 to 11 steps, WPSD.com reports.
It was two hours, though, before the couple called 911.
Breanna died from her injuries on January 23. An autopsy was performed on January 24. On January 27, the Calvert City Police Department charged the parents with murder.
During Breanna’s hospitalization, but prior to her death, the couple was charged with first-degree criminal abuse (victim under the age of 12), failure to report child neglect/abuse and endangering the welfare of a minor.
