An organization that offers a wide range of life-altering services to over 4,000 Grayson County students has been honored by Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson.
Henderson, at a ceremony last week, declared via a proclamation that the week of February 10 – 14 is “Family Resource and Youth Services Center Coordinators Appreciation Week” in Grayson County.
The honor is intended to celebrate and show gratitude for the endless work local Family Resource and Youth Services Center (FRYSC) Coordinators put into each Grayson County school.
“Each FRYSC Coordinator serves families and children daily by eliminating non-cognitive barriers to learning as a means to enhance student academic success,” Clarkson FRC Coordinator Ann Brooks said.
FRYSC’s mission statement is: “To enhance students’ ability to succeed in school by developing and sustaining partnerships that promote: Early learning and successful transition into school; academic achievement and well-being; and graduation and transition into adult life.”
FRYSC Coordinators offer services to 4,073 students in Grayson County, as they collaborate with multiple local resources, including the Grayson County Alliance Food Pantry, Community Action, the UK Extension Office, Adult Education, mental healthcare facilities, individuals, churches, businesses, and other civic groups to provide basic needs for families.
Across Kentucky, 900 Family Resource and Youth Services Centers work in schools directly to provide support to children and families.
“Recent surveys report that educators, parents, and community partners feel that the FRYSCs are a necessary component of Kentucky’s educational programming,” Brooks said.
