Dr. Larry Thomas McClure, MD, loving husband and father, age 75, of Leitchfield, KY, passed away Saturday, (February 1, 2025) at his residence. He was born on April 16, 1949 in Louisville, KY, the son of the late Theodore Thomas McClure and Kathryn Meredith McClure.

Dr. Larry graduated from U of L in 1975 and did his medical residency in Evansville, IN. He opened his first family practice in Leitchfield in 1978-1985. He was the only OBGYN at that time locally delivering babies as well. He worked in Newburg, IN at a practice from 1986-1988.

He then worked at a practice in Ashland, KY from 1988-1995. He moved back to Leitchfield in 1995 with his family practice and later went to work for the Veteran’s Administration as their physician. He was a true patriot and felt that by working for the veterans he was giving back.

He officially retired on October 31, 2024. He lived his life everyday trying to make people feel better.

He was a member of the American Accreditation Association of Physicians, KY Medical Association, and the KY Academy of Family Physicians. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #236. Dr. Larry enjoyed traveling, playing golf, farming, and gardening. He was a bee-keeper for several years. He adored his family and loved spending time with them.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Pendley McClure of Leitchfield; his children, Matthew Thomas McClure of Louisville, and Rachael Ackermann of St. Louis, MO; his bonus children, Tara Haynes Lewis, Morgan Haynes, and Dalton Haynes; and his beloved grandchildren, Miles and Kailey McClure, and Eli and Ruby Ackermann.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Harry and Terry McClure; and his step-mother, Joann Decker, who was a loving mother to him and a big part of his life.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, (February 8, 2025) at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Buddy Brooks will be officiating. Burial will be in the McClure Cemetery.

The family welcomes a celebration of his life by wearing lively colors and attire.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday and from
10:00 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of planting a tree in his honor, or donating to the American Heart Association.
