Lawrence E. Newton, age 68, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at Norton’s Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on June 24, 1956 in Leitchfield, KY, the son of the late Everett and Myrtle Heath Newton.
Lawrence was owner and operator of Superior Lumber and enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball and cornhole. He also enjoyed traveling with his family and being outdoors. Lawrence was a member and active deacon of First Baptist Church, Leitchfield.
Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Tami McKinney Newton; two daughters, Magan Newton of TN and Kristina (Isaiah) Sol of Leitchfield; soon to be Pappy to his grandchild; two special grandchildren, Emmett and Maverick Snyder of Owensboro; two brothers, Tommy (Pat) Newton of Caneyville and Earl (Dottie) Newton of Caneyville; two sisters, Ruth Meredith of Glendale and Judy (Ralph) Haycraft of Leitchfield. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Junior, Lewis, Jimmy, and
Paul Newton.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, (February 2, 2025) at the First Baptist Church in Leitchfield. Pastor Doug King will be officiating. Burial will be in the South Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00p.m. on Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. Sunday until time to leave for the service at the church.
