A Grayson County family lost their home to a massive fire on Saturday.

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:00, the Leitchfield and Caneyville Fire Departments, EMS and Grayson County Emergency Management responded to a residential fire in the 700 block of Kefauver Road.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found a large, two-story wood-frame home nearly fully engulfed in flames. The fire burned extraordinarily hot toward the front of the home, which is also thought to be where the fire originated, as popping sounds caused by heated ammunition filled the air.

A steady crosswind helped push flames through the home, and spread a grass fire that was extinguished before reaching outbuildings or the neighbor’s residence.

There were though several cars near the home that were heavily damaged, including three vehicles, one a classic muscle car, that were parked in the front yard only feet from the residence.

Firefighters battled the blaze and conducted an overhaul (ensuring there are no hot spots) before clearing the scene at around 5:00 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said the fire was likely electrical in nature.

The Red Cross arrived on scene and assisted the family.
