A fire destroyed a large barn in Falls of Rough.
The Falls of Rough, Caneyville and Leitchfield Fire Departments responded to the blaze in the 10100 block of Falls of Rough Road (Hwy 79) at approximately 11:45 Sunday night.
The approximate 100 ft by 50 ft structure was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. Firefighters battled the blaze for well over an hour and prevented the fire from spreading into an adjacent field.
The structure was a total loss. A nearby home was undamaged.
The only electrical running in the structure, and the probable cause of the fire, was in the garage area where the family was keeping chickens warm, Leitchfield Fire Chief Tim Duvall said. The chickens died in the fire.
