
A child has been killed in Hardin County, and a man charged, after the boy accidentally shot himself.
The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:00 at a residence on North Street in Radcliff. According to a report by The News-Enterprise, a six-year-old boy gained access to a firearm and shot himself in the head.
The Radcliff Police Department investigation showed that 26-year-old Damarco R. Callen, of Radcliff, left a loaded firearm underneath a pillow in a bedroom where the child, Callen and other family members sleep.
Callen was in another room of the home when he heard a gunshot come from the bedroom.
The child was airlifted to a Louisville hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Callen was arrested and charged with first-degree assault, felony wanton endangerment and unlawfully permit/provide a minor to possess a handgun. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond.
