A woman shot her husband multiple times before fatally shooting herself as the two were in a vehicle.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the report of a shooting in a vehicle Sunday morning at approximately 11:00 on Hwy 421 in the Cranks community of Harlan County.
The preliminary investigation showed that 43-year-old Johnny Simpson was shot by his wife, 43-year-old Samantha Simpson, both of Cawood, after pulling off the side of the road. She then shot herself in the head, police said.
Both were transported to Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital where the Harlan County Coroner’s Office pronounced Samantha Simpson deceased. Johnny Simpson was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
The Kentucky State Police investigation is ongoing.
