A popular Falls of Rough business owner struck by a car last Wednesday has died.
Chris Tanner, 58, died Tuesday night at University of Louisville Hospital. He owned Tanner Automotive on Falls of Rough Road (Hwy 79), and also operated a towing service.
Tanner was waving a flashlight facing northbound traffic, according to the sheriff’s office, when the southbound vehicle, being driven by 36-year-old Michale Biskup, of Falls of Rough, struck Tanner. Biskup told police he did not see him.
The impact propelled Tanner over the hood and into the windshield of the Honda before he fell off the vehicle and onto the roadway. He was airlifted to UofL Hospital from Rough River State Park Airport.
The sheriff’s office said, “no charges were immediately filed (against Biskup); however, toxicology results are pending.”
Sheriff Norman Chaffins told K105 that it could take up to 12 weeks to receive the results of Biskup’s toxicology report.
The Leitchfield Police Department, which worked closely with Tanner, issued a statement on his passing.
“We at Leitchfield Police Department are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of local wrecker operator, Chris Tanner. Our officers have had a long working relationship with Chris. He has probably taken care of more crash scenes in Leitchfield than any single officer at our agency. He will be remembered for his work ethic, sense of humor, and helpful demeanor toward citizens in need. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends, may God bring a tremendous peace and comfort to them.”
