A Grayson County man armed with a knife is accused of illegally entering a home and breaking out a window “with a large tree branch” before the female resident shot at him and a dog attacked him.
Grayson County Deputies Andy Cast and Joel Baker along with Leitchfield Police Department Officer Wally Ritter responded to the burglary Saturday night at 10:00 in the 5600 block of Millerstown Road.
Initially, law enforcement was told a man had been shot, but the investigation showed that 25-year-old Elliott L. Hazelwood, of Big Clifty, “had tried to force entry into the home armed with a knife,” according to the arrest citation.
At some point during the burglary, the female shot at Hazelwood and he was also bitten by a dog.
The knife Hazelwood was armed with was found in a hallway inside the residence, the citation states.
When police arrived at the scene, Hazelwood was found lying down “in a porch area across” the street from the home he’s accused of breaking into, according to the citation.
Hazelwood was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree criminal mischief. He was also served with a warrant out of Hardin County charging him with violating the conditions of his release.
He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
