A juvenile not wearing a seat belt has been killed in a two-vehicle crash in Meade County.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the accident on Hwy 313 at the entrance to River Ridge Plaza in Brandenburg Saturday at 12:15 p.m.

The state police preliminary investigation showed that a 2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, being driven by 42-year-old Kevin Owens, of Brandenburg, was making a left turn off Hwy 313 into the River Ridge Plaza parking lot when he pulled into the path of a Freightliner dump truck.

An “unrestrained” 12-year-old boy and his father, Owens, who was also not wearing a seat belt, were transported to Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Indiana, where the juvenile was pronounced deceased, according to state police.

Shawn Goddard, 24, of Brandenburg, was driving the dump truck and was uninjured.

Sr. KSP Trooper T.K. Lynch is leading the investigation.
