A Leitchfield police officer was able to stop a wrong-way driver on the Western Kentucky Parkway before a crash occurred.
The incident began Thursday afternoon at approximately 5:20 when Central Dispatch reported a wrong-way driver, traveling east in the westbound lanes, on the parkway near Leitchfield. LPD Officer Brian Jennings responded to the parkway where he made contact with the wrong-way vehicle.
(Assisting officers and Grayson County deputies warned oncoming vehicles and briefly shut down traffic to prevent an accident.)
It took Jennings about a mile stop the vehicle, and once he did, the officer made contact with the driver, a 78-year-old woman from several counties away, “who had gotten lost and mistakenly entered the parkway in the wrong lane,” the Leitchfield Police Department said.
LPD Officer Eric Miller and Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins assisted Jennings at the scene.
EMS also responded and transported the woman to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center for medical clearance. The woman was then cleared by medical personnel.
LPD located the woman’s family members with whom she was safely reunited.
