A man who fled police trying to serve an arrest warrant has been shot by a Hancock County deputy.
Kentucky State Police said investigators responded to the shooting Tuesday at approximately 4:00 in the 100 block of River Street in Hawesville.
The investigation revealed that Lewisport Police Department officers attempted to serve an arrest warrant on 60-year-old Carl P. Newhard, Lewisport, when he fled in a vehicle, state police said.
A pursuit of the fleeing suspect entered Hawesville where Hancock County deputies utilized a tire deflation device, ending the pursuit. During the following encounter, Newhard brandished a handgun at law enforcement, as a Hancock County deputy fired at and struck Newhard.
The suspect sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
No other injuries were reported.
