The mother of an infant who drowned in a motel bathtub on New Year’s Day has been charged in the baby’s death.
Louisville police arrested 36-year-old Amber M. Winstead on Thursday and charged her with second-degree manslaughter in the death of her three-month-old baby.
According to a report by WAVE.com, the arrest citation states that Winstead admitted to taking a bath with the baby after ingesting drugs. Winstead then fell asleep in the bathtub at Motel 6 in the 6100 block of Airport Hotel Boulevard in Louisville, and was awakened several hours later, at approximately 4:30 a.m. New Years Day, by another person.
When Winstead woke up, the infant was submerged in the water. The baby was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Winstead was lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections.
Second-degree manslaughter is a class C felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
