Grayson County is now under a Winter Storm Warning and a Freezing Fog Advisory.
The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting between three and six inches of snow to fall on Friday, with locally higher amounts possible.
Friday’s high is predicted to be 31 degrees with a low of 19 degrees. The snowstorm is expected to arrive in the area at approximately 6:00 a.m. Friday, while the Winter Storm Warning goes into effect Friday at 3:00 a.m.
The NWS is not predicting freezing rain during this winter weather event, but the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) said that with below-freezing temperatures predicted, the snowfall is likely to create hazardous driving conditions with slick roads and bridges.
“Crews are monitoring the weather and are preparing to plow snow and treat roads where needed,” the KYTC said.
Freezing fog
At approximately 2:15 Thursday morning, the NWS issued a Freezing Fog Advisory for Grayson County.
“Some surfaces that these droplets may freeze on include tree branches, stairs and rails, sidewalks, roads and vehicles,” according to the NWS. “Extreme caution should be taken if travel is necessary.”
Freezing fog, the NWS said, can cause black ice to form on roadways. Black ice is difficult to see and particularly dangerous.
