Two men have perished in a landslide while digging for coal.

The incident occurred Friday morning at approximately 1:00 when 37-year-old Jonathan Hoskins and 40-year-old Donald Short, both of Manchester, were digging for coal at an old mine off Stone Gap Road in Oneida in Clay County.

The two men was buried under a landslide when a section of a hillside gave away as they dug.

“I just know they were getting some coal to burn, to heat with. Hillside gave way, collapsed on them,” a friend of the two men, David Taylor, told WYMT.com.
