Courtesy of the Grayson County medical community, Caneyville Elementary School will soon have new playground equipment.
“New playground equipment will be coming to Caneyville Elementary thanks to a generous $25,000 grant from the Grayson County Healthcare Foundation (GCHF),” according to Grayson County Schools.
The grant request, spearheaded by Caneyville Principal Josh Basham and PTO member Jessica Rusher, was fully funded by the GCHF board.
The equipment will be added to the third through fifth grade playground to provide additional play and fitness opportunities tailored to that age group.
GCHF Board members DeeDee Beeler, Wayne Merriweather, and Executive Director Brittany Clemons recently visited the school to present the ceremonial check. Joining in to celebrate the big news were Basham, Rusher, and fifth grade students Etta Kate Hall, Sadie Probus, Gabe Sines, and Remi McQuady.
Clemons noted the foundation’s focus on promoting physical activity and addressing obesity is a priority funding area.
“When we make an impact in the youth, hopefully, they will make better choices through their lifetime. That’s why this project was such a priority for us,” she said.
