David Winston Norris, age 83, of Leitchfield KY, passed away Saturday, (December 7, 2024) at his home. He was born on September 14, 1941 in Louisville, KY, the son of the late Charles Edward and Lora Mae Turner Norris.

He joined the US Navy on November 6, 1960 and became the youngest member of the Navy Seal Team 2 based in Little Creek VA in 1962. He joined the Kentucky State Police in 1965 and served as a road trooper and detective during his 21 years of service, retiring in 1986. He also served with the Kentucky Water Patrol from 1988 to 1996.

David enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, visiting with family, traveling and Bluegrass music; He was a member of the Ol’ Blue Bluegrass Band and the Hickory Grove Bluegrass Band. He gave his heart to Jesus in 1979 and was a member of Potter’s Hope Ministries.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue McClure Norris; his four children, Jill Clemons (Rick), Lori Susie Norris, Kelly Ann Tabor (Allen) and David Landis Norris (Lorie), thirteen grandchildren, Amy, Amanda, Emily, Jared, Michael, Sean, Jordan, Megan, Taylor, Jakob, Kelsey, Sarah and Daniel, nineteen great-grandchildren; Solomon, Katarina, Scarlett, Magnolia, Landis, Jayant, Jude, Jackson, Jensen, Ezra, Elias, Iris, Raelyn, Vera, Davy, Emmie, Edie and Wren, his sister, Karen Marie Clanin (Lewis). Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a great grandson, Griffin Embry and two brothers, Gerald Briggs and Daryl Patrick Norris.

A Going Home Celebration will be at 12:00 noon Friday, (December 13, 2024) at Potter’s Hope Ministries 135 Commerce Dr. Leitchfield. Bros. David Norris, Cory Elloitt and Wayne Clemons will be officiating. Burial will be in the Leitchfield Memory Gardens with Military Rites.

Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday evening at the church from 6:00-7:00 p.m.
