One of Leitchfield’s largest and oldest employers is closing its doors.
Bel Brands, USA announced on Tuesday that it is shuttering the Leitchfield plant (formerly known as Bel Cheese) at 602 West Main Street.
The plant closing is expected to take place in the spring or summer of 2025.
The plant, according to the company’s website, employs approximately 300 workers in the 185,000 square-foot facility. Current Leitchfield Bel Brands employees will be given an opportunity to relocate to other Bel Brands plants.
The Leitchfield plant began operations in 1970, when Bel Brands, USA purchased Avalon Cheese, the company’s website says.
Local Bel Brands company officials are scheduled to meet on Wednesday with Leitchfield Mayor Harold Miller and Grayson County Judge-Executive Kevin Henderson to explain the company’s thought process regarding the plant closing.
