A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after a fatal wrong-way crash on I-65.
Thomas Catalina, 44, of Manchester, Tennessee, was sentenced after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide when under the influence, first-degree assault and multiple counts of felony wanton endangerment, according to a report by WAVE.com.
Cataline drove 100 miles per hour north in the I-65 southbound lanes in a pickup truck in August 2022 near the Louisville Exposition Center. He struck seven cars, killing 26-year-old Rajnu Masoud, of Bowling Green. Catalina’s truck burst into flames.
Documents, the Louisville television reports, said Catalina told a police officer that he ingested methamphetamine several days before the crash, but he could not remember when. Catalina further stated he was “messed up” on drugs and was driving as fast as his truck would go.
Several other people were injured in the incident.
