A system-wide boil water advisory has been issued for Hardinsburg after a water tank was tampered with.

The city of Hardinsburg said that the water tank at Persimmon Flats, about five miles northwest of Hardinsburg, has been tampered with. The Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, with Sheriff Billy Richardson telling WXBC.com that “a cover on the main was loosened and spraying water and the top hatch was opened on top of the tank.”

The Kentucky Division of Water and the Department of Homeland Security advised the city to issue a system wide boil water advisory until water samples have been tested and deemed free of contaminants, the city of Hardinsburg said.

In addition to the water tank being tampered with, Richardson said radio equipment that was scheduled to be installed as part of an upgrade was stolen.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact the Breckinridge County Sheriff’s Office at 270-756-2361.
