Leitchfield Parks & Recreation Director Tammee Saltsman has received a state-wide award for her work on the Beville Trail expansion project.

The Kentucky Recreation & Park Society (KRPS) recently met for its annual state conference and Trade Show at Lake Barkley State Park in Cadiz. KRPS is a state affiliate of the National Recreation & Park Association and provides training and continuing education opportunities to parks and recreation professionals and partnering organizations such as Eastern Kentucky University and the Kentucky League of Cities.

At the conference, the Leitchfield Parks & Recreation Department was the KRPS’s Class I Facility Award recipient for the Beville Trail expansion at James D. Beville Park.

The Beville Trail expansion is 2.1 miles of multipurpose trail and offers walking, biking, roller skating, and skateboarding. The expansion additionally provides challenging hills and curves, and is utilized by countless families in the Grayson County community.

“I am very honored to receive this award. The trail was a large project and at times very challenging.  It has been such a great asset to our community,” Saltsman said upon receiving the award. “The Beville Trail expansion has been an absolutely amazing addition to our park.”

The trail expansion project is an excellent example of the great things that can happen when a community comes together for a common goal.

“The Leitchfield Parks & Recreation Department is so thankful for those that helped make this vision come to life,” Saltsman said. “A special thank you to Leitchfield Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson and Leitchfield Public Works for being a significant part of this project.”

Facility awards are given to indoor or outdoor facilities that offer unique enhancement to the quality of life in the field of recreation and leisure service within the communities they are constructed, according to the KRPS.
