An armed man who allegedly broke into a Shrewsbury Road home, terrorized a female and juvenile before stealing the woman’s purse has been arrested.
An intensive investigation — by multiple members of the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office — into identifying and capturing the suspect who committed the armed home invasion robbery early Monday morning became focused on Valley View Apartments, at 508 Morgantown Street in Caneyville, on Tuesday night.
When police received information that the suspect could be at the Caneyville complex, Kentucky State Police troopers provided assistance to Deputies Thomas Lane, Andy Cast and Joe Baker as they attempted to make contact with the suspect.
Upon arriving at the complex at approximately 9:30 Tuesday night, deputies and troopers quickly made contact with the suspect, 37-year-old Richard L. Price, and arrested him without incident. Price was charged with first-degree robbery, theft of identity of another without consent, first-degree wanton endangerment, and second-degree criminal mischief.
He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center on three bonds totaling $290,000.
On Tuesday, only hours before his capture, a warrant was issued out of Marion County after Price committed a similar crime where he allegedly assaulted a female with a frying pan and robbed her. He was charged with first-degree robbery and first-degree assault in that case.
The incident in Grayson County began Monday morning at approximately 1:45 when Lane responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Shrewsbury Road on the report of an armed male breaking into a residence.
Lane learned upon interviewing the victim that Price, armed with a handgun and wearing a mask, terrorized the female, telling her to “go to her child’s bedroom” before he stole her purse and fled in an unknown vehicle (later identified as a Chevrolet Camaro).
As of late Tuesday night, police were still trying to determine where Price is from. According to online records, he was held in 2022 in Marion and Johnson counties on warrants from other agencies. Online arrest records from Marion County states he was from Lebanon. In Johnson County, where he was also being held for another agency, his hometown was listed as Springfield (Washington Co.).
Also in 2022, Price was held in the Adair County Detention Center on a commitment order. His hometown was listed as Springfield.
In 2020, Price was arrested in Adair County on several charges, including felony wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, tampering with physical evidence, booster seat violations, and possession of marijuana. Adair County in that arrest lists his hometown as Columbia.
In 2018, Price was held at the Bullitt County Detention Center on a commitment order. His hometown was listed as West Point in Hardin County. In 2017, he was held in the Hardin County Detention Center on a warrant from another agency. His hometown was listed in that case as West Point.
