42-year-old KSP sergeant dies after ‘brief illness’

A Kentucky State Police trooper has passed away after a brief illness.

KSP Sgt. Chris T. Carter, 42, of Catlettsburg (Boyd Co.), died at a Charleston, West Virginia, hospital on Sunday, according to his obituary. He died “following a brief illness,” his obituary states.

Carter was a 19-year veteran of Kentucky State Police and was assigned to Post 14 in Ashland.

“His departure has left a profound void within our ranks and communities,” KSP said in a press release. “Sergeant Carter’s career with the Kentucky State Police was defined by integrity, unwavering dedication, and a steadfast commitment to protecting the people of Kentucky. Over nearly two decades, he served with distinction and compassion, embodying the values that define our agency: honor, courage, and commitment. His legacy is woven into the fabric of our department, as well as the lives of those he touched.”

He leaves behind his wife, Brittney Carter.
