The Leitchfield Police Department is recommending a service to remove nude images of children from social media platforms as the county’s school resource officers have been “inundated … with reports of nude images of students” being shared online.

“Law enforcement and specifically our SRO’s with Leitchfield PD become inundated at times with reports of nude images of students being shared on social media platforms such as Instagram, Snapchat, etc.,” Leitchfield PD said in a social media post.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) offers a free service called Take It Down “that can help you remove or stop the online sharing of nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit images or videos taken of you when you were under 18 years old,” the Take It Down website says.

This website link offers some hope for your children, LPD said.

Leitchfield police stated that detectives “may be able to investigate malicious activity but we can never guarantee that we have found or removed every example of that photo from every user that has accessed it.”

If utilizing the NCMEC Take It Down service, you may remain anonymous.

“Take It Down will work on public or unencrypted online platforms that have agreed to participate,” according to the NCMEC.
