A Grayson County deputy’s perseverance resulted in the recovery of a stolen semi-truck and the arrest of a suspect.

Thursday morning at approximately 5:30, Grayson County Dispatch reported to deputies that a stolen semi, minus the trailer, was on the Western Kentucky Parkway traveling east in Grayson County near the 94-mile marker at Caneyville. The truck was reported stolen out of Daviess County.

Grayson County Sgt. Jason Luedke responded to the parkway and failed to make contact with the red semi as he searched to the Hardin County line. Instead of turning around upon reaching the county line, Luedke continued into Hardin County where he made contact with the semi near the Eastview (Exit 124).

Deputy Andy Cast, who had also been searching for the truck, arrived to assist Luedke.

Other law enforcement agencies, including Kentucky State Police, were notified that Luedke had spotted the truck, and was following the vehicle.

Luedke requested another agency conduct a traffic stop, as a trooper was already responding to the area. As Luedke and Cast followed the truck, the trooper stopped on the parkway awaiting the stolen semi.

The trooper made contact with the semi and attempted to conduct a traffic stop at the 134-mile marker but the truck continued before taking Exit 136 in Elizabethtown. The semi finally stopped near the intersection of the 31-W Bypass and New Glendale Road, only a short distance from where the truck exited the parkway.

The driver, 31-year-old Karel Reza Perez, of Louisville, was arrested by Kentucky State Police and transported to the Hardin County Detention Center where he’s been charged with receiving stolen property (more than $10,000).
