A Kentucky Fish and Wildlife trainee has died in an “agency-involved training incident” in Barren County.

Kentucky State Police is investigating after 24-year-old William “Tex” Bailey, of Richmond, died Friday afternoon at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Game Warden Academy in Barren County.

“The preliminary investigation,” state police said, “indicates that during a training exercise … Bailey experienced a medical emergency,” Kentucky State Police said. “This information is based on the preliminary investigation into this incident and could be subject to change through the course of the ongoing investigation as investigators interview vital witnesses and gather pertinent facts.”

He was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Bailey’s remains were transported from O.D. White & Sons Funeral Home in Louisville to Laughlin Service Funeral Home in Bailey’s hometown of Huntsville, Alabama.

The procession included not only Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Game Wardens but also Kentucky State Police. Tennessee Wildlife Officers and Alabama Fish & Game Wardens assisted with the procession at each of the state lines.

Bailey recently graduated from Eastern Kentucky University where he played football for four years.
