An impaired 20-year-old man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the deaths of an elderly Marion County couple.
Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Saturday evening at 6:20 on Hwy 68 near Jessietown Road, approximately 10 miles south of Lebanon.
Police said the investigation showed that 20-year-old Erick A. Garcia, of Lebanon, was traveling west on Hwy 68 in a 2005 Dodge Ram when he crossed the centerline and entered the eastbound lane before dropping off the roadway.
The vehicle then traveled back into the eastbound lane and hit head-on a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, being driven by 75-year-old Roy Wright, of Lebanon.
Wright was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. His passenger and wife, 72-year-old Deborah Wright, of Lebanon, was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Marion County Coroner’s Office.
Garcia was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide, first-degree assault, DUI, felony wanton endangerment, and careless driving.
He was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center on a $2 million cash bond.
