A Leitchfield home has been destroyed in a massive fire.
The Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson Co. Emergency Management and EMS responded to the fire on the corner of Alexander Drive and Embry Villa Road Friday night at approximately 8:00.
Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found the home and a large deck nearly fully engulfed in flames, as firefighters battled the blaze from both inside the burning home and outside.
Several large explosions rocked the neighborhood before and just after firefighters arrived on scene. The explosions appeared to come from the rear of the property.
At least one adjacent residence lost power.
It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The family’s pets, two dogs and a cat, survived the fire, according to a social media post by the family. The unresponsive cat, described by one witness as a kitten, was pulled from the home and given oxygen by EMS, likely saving the animal’s life.
The family’s two vehicles, parked behind the home adjacent to the deck, were also destroyed in the fire.
It appears the fire began in the rear of the home, possibly on the deck, according to LFD Assistant Fire Chief Roy Hack.
The Leitchfield Police Department arrived at the scene and provided traffic control. The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the family of four.
There were no injuries reported.
