The suspect shot by an Elizabethtown officer at Baptist Health Hardin has multiple arrests for assaulting police/parole officers, methamphetamine possession and firearm offenses. He was also jailed on a commitment order in 2016.

The shooting occurred at approximately 5:00 Saturday morning when Elizabethtown officers responded to multiple shots fired in the emergency room of the hospital at 913 North Dixie Avenue, according to Elizabethtown Police Department Public Affairs Officer Chris Denham.

An officer arrived on the scene within minutes and made contact with an armed, adult male, now identified as 39-year-old George Lee Jr., of Radcliff. During the encounter, the officer shot Lee, who was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital, Denham said.

Lee is currently listed in critical but stable condition.

Lee, according to online records, was arrested in 2018 in Hardin County and charged with third-degree assault of police/probation officer, possession of meth, tampering with physical evidence, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, possession of a defaced firearm, resisting arrest, and third-degree criminal mischief.

In 2019, Lee was charged with possession of a handgun by convicted felon, third-degree assault of police/probation officer and possession of methamphetamine in Fulton County.

Lee in 2016 was jailed on a commitment order in Bullitt County, online records show.

The criminal investigation regarding the initial shooting by the adult male will be conducted by the Elizabethtown PD. The officer-involved shooting investigation will be led by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team.
