An elderly Cave City man has been killed after a driver swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting a deer.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the multi-vehicle accident at approximately 10:30 Sunday morning in the 7000 block of Scottsville Road (Hwy 31-E) in Barren County.

State police said the investigation showed that a 2000 GMC Sierra, being driven by 47-year-old Charles Vittitoe, of Scottsville, was traveling north on Scottsville Road when he swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid hitting a deer. The 2000 GMC then struck a southbound 2009 GMC Sierra, being driven by 76-year-old Daniel Webb, of Cave City.

Webb was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Barren County Coroner’s Office. Vittitoe was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital before being transferred to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee, with serious injuries.

A passenger in the 2009 Sierra, 71-year-old Sharon Webb, was transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital with “unknown injuries,” police said.
