An impaired 21-year-old Henry County man has been charged with two counts of murder after crashing into a motorcycle and killing both riders.

Kentucky State Police said troopers responded to the crash Friday night at approximately 10:20 on LaGrange Road in Henry County.

The state police investigation showed that a motorcycle, being driven by 40-year-old Austin Doane, of Smithfield, was traveling east on Lagrange Road (Hwy 146) near Dawkins Lane, about a mile west of Pendleton, when a 2002 Chevrolet truck, being driven by 21-year-old Trustin B. Hasenauer, of Pendleton, crossed the center line and struck the motorcycle. Hasenauer then fled the scene.

Doane was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Henry County Coroner’s Office. A passenger, 31-year-old Holly C. Hawkins, of New Castle, was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Hasenauer, who was discovered to be impaired, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, DUI (aggravating circumstances), leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, failure to render aid, driving on an expired license, and failure to produce an insurance card.

He was lodged at the Oldham County Detention Center on a $750,000 cash bond.

The investigation is ongoing.
