A statewide daytime burn ban began on Tuesday.

Under state law, during Kentucky’s fall forest fire season no burning can take place within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., according to the Kentucky Department of Forestry (KDF).

The daytime burn ban is in effect until December 15.

Authorities remind people that if burning during allowable hours, the fires should be attended until they are extinguished.

The penalty for violating the burn ban is a maximum $500 fine.
