The Letcher County sheriff has allegedly shot and killed a district court judge at the Letcher County Courthouse in Whitesburg.

The Mountain Eagle is reporting that Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines is in custody after allegedly shooting and killing District Court Judge Kevin Mullins in the judge’s office on Thursday.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown, and Letcher County Central High School was released early.

This is a developing story.
