One person was airlifted and another hospitalized after the sun blinded a driver who then struck the rear of an Amish buggy.

Grayson Co. Sheriff Norman Chaffins, Chief Deputy Sonny Poteet and Sgt. Jason Luedke, the Caneyville Fire Department, Grayson Co. Emergency Management, and EMS responded to the accident in the 15000 block of Beaver Dam Road (Hwy 62) Monday morning at approximately 7:45.

Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found that the driver of an eastbound Ford F-150 truck was blinded by the sun as the truck topped a hill. The truck then struck the rear of an eastbound Amish buggy being pulled by two horses, according to first responders.

Four men were in the buggy, with two suffering major injuries. One of the men was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital. Another man was transported by EMS to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.

A third man was treated at the scene by EMS personnel and refused transport.

The driver of the truck was not injured.

At least one of the horses suffered injuries in the crash but the animal’s current condition is unclear.
