Ray Downs, age 90 of Big Clifty, Kentucky departed his life on September 12, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones. Ray was born September 9, 1934, to the late Elsie and Wilson Downs. He was married to Estel Arlene Downs who preceded him in death.
Ray joined the United States Army at the age of 18, he was a member of the 538th Division of Field Artillery at Fort Carson, Colorado until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He was also employed by the Grayson County Road Department and was a road foreman for several years before retiring after 30 years of service. Ray was a lifetime farmer and was proud to be a citizen of the Big Clifty community which he loved.
Ray is survived by his caretaker and granddaughter Brandi Burris (Brian) of Big Clifty.
Ray leaves to honor his memory of five additional grandchildren, Olivia Marrero (Trey), Ronnie Saltsman, Macey Saltsman (Victoria), Summer Parrett (Jamie) and Haley Gilbert (Chad); two great grandchildren, Elisabeth Marrero and Karson Miller; and two stepsons Anthony and Jeff Waldeck.
Other than his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, LeAnn Waldeck; and brother, Harold Downs.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM (CT), Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at Rogers Funeral Home in Clarkson with Bro. Alan Self officiating. Burial will follow at Little Clifty Methodist Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1PM to 8 PM Monday and Tuesday after 9 AM until the time of service at the funeral home.
