Leitchfield Utilities has won a prestigious statewide award for water quality and for making “substantial and lasting improvements in providing high levels of customer service …”

During this year’s awards luncheon at Kentucky Rural Water Association’s (KRWA) Annual Conference & Exhibition, 10 exceptional water and wastewater utilities were honored as Wooden Bucket finalists, “recognizing their outstanding service and dedication over the past year,” said Savannah Goad, with the Kentucky Rural Water Association.

Dr. Thomas Carew, state Director of USDA-Rural Development, presented plaques of recognition to Leitchfield Utilities along with Adairville Waterworks, Berea Municipal Utilities, Boone County Water District, Harrodsburg Municipal Water Department, Louisa Utilities Commission, Mayfield Electric and Water System, North Nelson Water District, Southeastern Water Association, and Western Mason Water District.

“From this distinguished group, Leitchfield Utilities was selected to receive Rural Water’s highest honor, the prestigious Wooden Bucket Award,” Goad said.

“The Wooden Bucket Award is presented to a water and/or wastewater utility that has made substantial and lasting improvements in providing high levels of customer service and high-quality drinking water and wastewater services to its community,” according to Goad.

The award also recognizes exceptional efforts in meeting the needs of the community, enhancing operations and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

The awards ceremony took place during KRWA’s Annual Conference & Exhibition on August 26-28, at the Central Bank Center in Lexington. The event celebrated 45 years of “Helping Utilities … Help Themselves.”

Nearly 900 representatives from Kentucky’s public drinking water and wastewater utilities gathered for the annual event, which offers attendees valuable opportunities to network with peers, tour Kentucky’s largest exhibition of products and services for public utilities, and hear from industry experts on issues impacting the water sector.

The Kentucky Rural Water Association is a statewide, non-profit association that provides training, on-site technical assistance, advocacy, and other services to over 365-member public drinking water and wastewater utilities throughout Kentucky. With offices in Bowling Green and Frankfort, KRWA has been committed to fulfilling its mission of helping water and wastewater utilities help themselves since 1979.
